Book: Bushwhackers, Visions, Star-Crossed Lovers

by Frankie Carlin Meyer

It contains over 200 true stories, over 200 photographs, and 22 maps. It is about Ozark history and culture as seen through the eyes of settlers. Most of the stories center around McDonald County, Barry County, and Newton County, with several stories that also pertain to adjacent counties such as Benton, Washington, and Carroll counties in Arkansas. The book starts with the earliest settlers who entered the Ozarks through St. Charles and St. Louis. It then tells about the trails they took and their experiences as as they traveled south to Southwest Missouri and Northwest Arkansas. The rest of the book tells about the lives of the settlers. The book has 256 pages, has a ten-page index, and is 8 1/2 by 11. For more information check my Web site at frankiemeyerbooks.com. The book can be ordered directly from me or bought at Mustang Drug at Anderson, the McDonald County Museum at Pineville, the LeRu telephone office at Stella, the Stella Museum, the Wheaton Depot Museum, Etcetera Gift Shop at the Neosho square, the Newton County Museum at Neosho, and Barry County Museum at Cassville. The book is $24.95, plus $5 for shipping and handling.
I grew up on a farm on Carlin Ridge, located in the Success community between Rocky Comfort and Powell in the northeastern area of McDonald County. Carlin Ridge is about 4 miles southeast of Longview, and about seven miles south of Stella (located Newton County). If you need more information, let me know.
