Obituaries Colin "Squire" "Pop" Caldwell b. 27 Jul 1866 d. Nov 1940
This community was saddened last Saturday evening to hear of the
passing of C. Caldwell, one of Noel's pioneer citizens, at his home in
the northeast part of town. Colin Caldwell was born in McDonald County,
July 27th, 1866, and died Nov. 9th, 1940 at the age of 74 years, 3
months and 13 days. He was agent for the Kansas City Southern Railway at
Elk Springs for several years and was married to Laura Prater in Mar.
1893, coming to Noel in 1894 and making their home here since that time.
He was appointed Justice of the Peace shortly after coming to Noel and
was known to most of the citizens of this county as "Squire" or "Pop"
Caldwell. In the 46 years he served as Justice here he married something
over 800 couples, including many entire families. He was a member of
the local Methodist Church and I.O.O.F. Lodge. He had been in ill health
for the past year altho only recently did he give up his official
duties as Justice of the Peace. Surviving besides the widow is one
daughter, Mrs. Ethel Jarvis, of Kansas City, and one grand-daughter,
Jean Jarvis of Fulton, MO. Funeral services were held Monday afternoon
at the Methodist Church, with burial in the Marshall Cemetery northeast
of Noel.
