Obituaries J. O. Laughlin Pineville Democrat May 16, 1924 A very sad accident happened in the Washburn community last Tuesday afternoon when a horse J.O. Laughlin was driving to a buggy became frightened and ran away. He was thrown from the buggy, fatally injuring him. When he was found he was in a semiconscious condition and never became rational again having died about 48 hours after the accident. Uncle Jim, as he was best known, was born in McDonald County, Missouri, October 5, 1850, and departed this life May 8, 1924. He gave his heart to God early in life about the age of 18, and later joined the Methodist church and has since lived a devoted life always being faithful to his church. He was married to Mrs. Rada Shipley, February 10, 1870. To this union were born 11 children, 4 having preceded him to the Glory World. The other seven were at his bedside when the end came. the living children are: John M., Jim Harve, Frank, Luther, Georgia Hall, Effie Burnett, and Katie Story. Mr. Laughlin was a devoted companion, father, and grandfather and will be sadly missed in the community. Besides his wife and children, he leaves 36 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren, an aged brother, Harve Laughlin and one sister, Lucretia Hall, besides a host of other relatives and friends to mourn his departure. Funeral services were conducted by Rev. Ackhurst at the Methodist Church at Washburn after which his remains were laid to rest in the Roller Cemetery. submitted by Lois Platt |
