Homer Stephens

Joplin Globe, Wednesday April 29, 1964

  Homer Stephens, 67 years old, died at 1:40 o'clock Tuesday afternoon in the Cardwell Memorial Hospital in Stella where he had been admitted after suffering a heart attack. He suffered the attack at 11:55 a.m. while loading some longs at his sawmill on Granby, Route 2, and suffered a second seizure in his home about 1:00 p.m. and died about 15 minutes after being admitted to the hospital.

  He was born August 10, 1896, in McDonald county and was a lifelong resident of McDonald and Newton Counties. He had been a sawmill operator many years and had lived on Granby, Route 2, for five years.

  Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Dora Stephens; seven daughters, Mrs. Zola Griffith, Jane, Missouri, Mrs. Oleta Cargile, Anderson, MIssouri, Mrs. Myrl Stout, Noel, Missouri, Mrs. Dean Cochran of Grandby, Route 2, Mrs. Vivian Blevins, Stella, Missouri, Mrs. Neomia Haviland of Rocky Comfort, Route 2, MRs. Bonnie Newberry, Rock Comfort, Route 2, a son, Carnie Stephens, Neosho, Missouri, Route 5, six brothers, John Stephens, Exeter, Missouri, Harve Stephens, Hiwasse, Arkansas, Frank Stephens of Rio Dell, California, Carlin Stephens of Vista, California, Lewis Stephens, Anderson, Missouri, Route 2, and Edward Stephens, Parma, Idaho, 32 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren.

Services will be under the directions of Shewmake Funeral Home of Granby.
