The sudden death of Lew Thrasher was quite a shock to the relatives and friends in this deighborhood. Funeral services were conducted by Rev. Dixon of Anderson, and the remains interred in the New Bethel Cemetery.

Goodman Man commits suicide

  Lew Thrasher, one of the old settlers among the farmers of Goodman, committed suicide Tuesday night last week some time during the night. He purchased a quantity of carbolic acid and some other drugs at the store of A.J. Hatfield at Goodman on Tuesday evening, saying that he wanted the acid for disinfecting purposes. His body was found the next morning along a country road about a half mile from town. He had drunk the acid. Domestic trouble is thought to have been the chief reason for the act. The fact that the two of his sons had been called in the recent draft may have had something to do with it. Mr. Thrasher was a jolly, easy going, good natured fellowand the last man one would think of in connection with such an act. He attended the circus at Joplin on Monday and seemed to be in the best of spirits at that time.
