It
contains over 200 true stories, over 200 photographs, and 22 maps. It
is about Ozark history and culture as seen through the eyes of settlers.
Most of the stories center around McDonald County, Barry County, and
Newton County, with several stories that also pertain to adjacent
counties such as Benton, Washington, and Carroll counties in Arkansas.
The book starts with the earliest settlers who entered the Ozarks
through St. Charles and St. Louis. It then tells about the trails they
took and their experiences as as they traveled south to Southwest
Missouri and Northwest Arkansas. The rest of the book tells about the
lives of the settlers. The book has 256 pages, has a ten-page index, and
